MSc title: The untold fishing history of Timor-Leste

Jane was born and raised in Brazil. She has a Bachelor’s and a Licentiate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasilia (Brazil). During her undergraduate years, she undertook an internship in Fire Ecology of Cerrado. She found her calling for marine biology during an internship at a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to the study of Southern Right Whales. In 2019, Jane began her Masters of Biological Science (Marine Science) at The University of Western Australia, and in 2020 joined the Sea Around Us – IO to research and update fisheries data for Timor Leste for her research thesis project. Undertaking such research is of crucial importance for sustainable fisheries management, as it provides more accurate estimates of fisheries catch and effort data in countries where such information is not as readily available.
